What to pack first when moving — where to start
Hey everyone — I’m getting ready to move to another city in a couple of months, and I’m totally confused about where to begin packing. I have a full apartment: clothes, books, kitchen stuff, decorations, random souvenirs... It’s overwhelming. I’m asking: what should I pack first so that by the time moving day comes I’m not scrambling at the last minute? I want to avoid panic, lost stuff or broken items. If you’ve moved recently — how did you decide what to box up first, and how did you keep track of everything?

Good question — I actually used a guide on what to pack first when moving that helped me a ton in my last move. The idea was to start packing early (about 4–6 weeks before moving), and begin with things you rarely use — out‑of‑season clothes, holiday decorations, old books, extra décor, guest room items, stuff from storage or basement that you don’t need now. Then a couple weeks before — I packed most clothes, extra kitchen items, non‑essential kitchenware, pantry goods, and extra linens. In the final week I kept only the essentials — daily clothes, a few kitchen items, toiletries — and prepared an “Essentials Box” with things I’d need first day: meds, chargers, basic tools, a few dishes, maybe a blanket. I labelled each box with its contents and which room it’s meant for — that inventory list ended up being a lifesaver when unpacking.
