Electric linear actuators for home automation

Hey everyone, I’m thinking about automating a few things around my house, like windows, hidden cabinets, and maybe even a secret compartment in my living room. I’ve seen some DIY setups with actuators, but I’m not sure how feasible it is for home use. Has anyone actually tried using electric linear actuators for this kind of stuff? I’d love to hear what worked, what didn’t, and any tips for someone just starting out.

Yeah, I’ve played around with a few home automation projects myself. I ended up using an electric linear actuator https://www.progressiveautomations.ca/collections/linear-actuators to make a window lift system in my kitchen, and it works surprisingly well. The actuator is strong enough to handle the weight and smooth enough to avoid jerky movements. I also added one to a hidden bookshelf compartment, and it opens quietly at the push of a button. Just make sure you match the actuator’s stroke and load specs to whatever you’re moving.
